certain prescriptions are made during divination. these are similar in nature to those that derive from medical consultations. rarely does this mean that a client must take medication, which attempts to cure an illness through a chemical reaction in the client's body. rather the prescriptions aim at the other world and their spirits. to our understanding they have symbolic meaning or take on a ritual character. they are not easily understood in rational terms. frequently they involve a sacrifice to a spirit in order to repair a damaged relationship. occasionally spirits are known to ask something for the services they render.
usually it is small things that are asked for. to us they may appear of little importance (e.g. to put up a picture at a certain place or pouring some milk into a stream) and are easily accomplished. sometimes loyal friends with an open mind are called for. they can witness the ritual and enhance its effectiveness.
i am willing and able to help if a client requests my support and if the rituals prescribed are elaborate. this is part of the process of divination. no divination should fail its purpose because a client is not sure or unable to fulfil the demands of his or her prescription.
it is important to note that the prescriptions do not originate from the diviner but from the spirits with whom he works. he holds no influence over what they divine. therefore it is not possible to visit a diviner and request the performance of a particular ritual before a divination has taken place. it is only through this process that a client learns what prescriptions are helpful to him or her.
rituals work mostly on the transcendental sphere. they often appear unspectacular and a client may not experience initially a great deal of change. but after some time has passed the client suddenly realises that something has indeed changed or that a problem has resolved itself.
in the cultures where stick divination is practised blood sacrifices are commonplace and part of everyday life. in fact they are as common as eating meat is in our culture. if a client finds this idea difficult one can always find an alternative way. this may also be divined in the session.
